Wednesday Weekend Warm Up: Bourbon Cherry Seltzer
Homemade cherry-infused bourbon (or rum) is the base for this adult seltzer. The bourbon syrup from the cherries is sweet, but if you like a sweeter cocktail, use ginger ale in place of the seltzer.
Ingredients
- 1 cup(s) bourbon, such as Maker's Mark, or dark rum
- 3/4 cup(s) packed dark brown sugar
- 2 cup(s) whole fresh cherries, stems left on
- 16 ounce(s) (2 cups) seltzer water
Directions
- To prepare bourbon cherries: Microwave bourbon (or rum) and brown sugar in a microwave-safe dish until hot, about 1 minute. (Alternatively, heat in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until hot.) Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Pack cherries into a small jar and pour the hot liquid over them; gently press on the cherries to make sure they are submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 week or up to 1 month.
- To prepare seltzers: rocks glass with ice, add 1 1/2 oz cherry-infused bourbon (or rum) to glass, and top with about 4 ounces seltzer. Garnish with 2 or 3 whole bourbon cherries. (Refrigerate the remaining bourbon cherries for up to 1 month.)

{Tuesday Thoughts}

where I’ve never been.”
― Diane Arbus
Flying there to Napa this weekend for my birthday and I could not be more excited. Not only because I desperately need a change of scenery, but also because I’ve never been there and THAT is my favorite thing to do.
Makeover Monday: Birthday Style
It’s my birthday this Saturday! No, not my 50th, but my 31st! Holy cow…3-1! How exciting. If I were having a party this year, and not going out of town, I’d want something like this – lots of yellow, lots of stripes, lots of pictures of me with my friends and family and of course cake!
It’s super easy to put together a cute birthday party and include a theme while you’re celebrating. Just stick with one or two colors while you’re out shopping for party supplies such as plates, balloons, straws and streamers.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to put together a nice party. Just head over to your local dollar store, they always have a variety of plates and party accessories in a variety of colors to satisfy anyone’s color theme. Our dollar store even has helium balloons!
One area you don’t want to skimp on is the food and cake department! Your guests deserve the best when it comes to quality ingredients. If you’re not a baker, head to your local grocery store, Costco or bakery and have them whip up something for you! Tell them what colors you want used and give them a couple days advance notice and they’ll make a little masterpiece for you!
Most importantly, enjoy your day and who you’re spending it with. It’s only once a year that you have an excuse to celebrate YOU! Eat cake and be merry!
A Love Affair: White Workspaces
I recently moved my office from one room to another in our home and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the move. Files, pictures, folders, discs, flash drives, pens and pencils are all over the place and I’m yearning for a clean, crisp, white palette to work with (in).

So soothing and calming. Just a blank canvas to fill with all your work and belongs.

Twin Cities Interior Designer + Style Blogger + Trend Spotter
Oh, and did I mention “Web Designer” too?!
Meet Keely Overbye everyone! As I was spinning at the gym, flipping through my pages of Elle Decor, I almost fell off my bike! I was like, “Hey, I know this girl! She built my website!” (I apologize for the quality of this image…I just tore it out of my copy of Elle Décor and scanned it!) I had the pleasure of meeting Keely a few months back, while I was visiting my family and friends in Minnesota. Blogging has given me the incredible opportunity to meet some great like-minded and sweet individuals, like Miss Keely of the blog Luxe + Lillies!
Keely and I instantly connected and I asked her to build my website. I was so happy when she agreed to squeeze me into her busy schedule (this girl does it all – web design, blog design, interior design, table scaping, event design, style consultations…all at the ripe ol’ age of 24!). I knew since she was a “design-minded” individual, she would know exactly what I wanted in a website and boy, did she deliver! I love my website and she created and completed it in such a shockingly short amount of time. Not only did Keely take the time to build my website, she also patiently helped me refine my logo and my branding. I’m absolutely in love with this girl (not in a weird way, but in a proud older sister way!).
If you’re in the market for a new website or a fresh new look for your blog, hop on over to Keely’s site Luxe + Lillies and check out her services. She’s not only designed my website, but also a few of my best friend’s sites and blogs, and she comes highly recommended!
A Love Affair: Sunburst Mirrors
They’ve been around forever and you see them everywhere. I still want them everywhere. How can you go wrong with a burst of shimmery sun on your wall?
Smile…it’s a (get your motor runnin’) kind of weekend
It’s been pretty dang nice here in Southern California. Nice enough to take the Road King out for a spin. No, I don’t drive, I ride on the back and I love it. It’s one of the few ways I get to absolutely clear my mind. What do you do to get out of your head?
Have a great weekend everyone! Whether you’re on the back of a bike, heading to the beach or finding some killer deals at the flea market, may you find a little time for yourself!
Beach design and decor
I just received conformation this morning that I can start work on the Huntington Beach house project! I’ve been so excited about this project that I’ve already started PINNING inspiration images and collecting ideas for products.
The home is situated waterfront, directly on the Huntington Harbor and the owner has requested a coastal beachy vibe. I’m thinking of using a neutral and white color palette to start with tons of textures such as sisal, basket weaves, canvas, wickers and woods.
And then punching it up with pops of blue and green with hints of a contrasting orange. I want to think ocean, but I don’t want to be too “themey” and over the top and go all seashells and nautical.

Many more seaside images are waiting for you to see them HERE!
