Favorite Room Feature: Imagine Design Blog

Hello Sadie + Stella readers! I love being here and giving you a peek inside my very own home. I'm an Interior Designer and I LOOOOOVE designing and decorating all rooms, but my favorites would have to be the ones inside the walls of my home because I get to do them the way I want!

4 years ago, my boyfriend purchased a home and the family room and dining room looked like this before he moved in:

Wall paper border, lovely collection of plates and cups above the sofa, beautiful brass ceiling fan in the dining room, windows covered in fluffy valances...all had to go!

About a year later, when I moved in, the place looked like this:

Freshly painted walls, granite fireplace surround, cushy leather sofas (thankfully he didn't go with black!), Versailles travertine floors, updated recessed lighting...all a great foundation!

I like minimal decorations and decor, but this was just too stark even for me! So I had to spruce things up a bit:

Over-sized artwork in an unexpected shape, two-toned drapes, quatrefoil patterned rug, extra seating with a non-matching rocking chair, sofa table with accessories, ambient lighting and a handful of houseplants...definitely does the trick!

My boyfriend deserves much credit, since he gave me great bones to work with by opening up the walls and remodeling the entire interior of our home before I even knew him, leaving me no chance to get my hands on it! All it needed was a woman's touch!

Thank you, Lindsay(S), for having me over and letting me give you all a look inside our home.

"Buy a photography or botanical book, take a razor blade, and cut it up. It's not sacred. Put a dozen pages (the more, the better) in matching inexpensive frames, and hang them in a row or a block. Wow."

Create a serene atmosphere with muted hues. Here, celery green walls and natural fabrics set the stage while pale yellow lends a pop of color without disrupting the relaxed mood. Cheerful and energizing, yellow brings warmth to a room. It enhances and maximizes natural light and can brighten a space with few windows.

"We are told that people stay in love because of chemistry, or because they remain intrigued with each other, because of many kindnesses, because of luck. But part of it has got to be forgiveness and gratefulness."

"Everyone needs a super-cozy chair or chaise that hugs you when you sit on it. A pretty chair is not necessarily a comfortable chair, so a "me" chair is a must." -Jonathan Rachamn, fleurtstyle.com

Wednesday Weekend Warm Up

Caipirinha Cocktail

Ingredients:
  • 1 lime
  • 2 rounded teaspoons granulated sugar (superfine if ya got it)
  • cachaca (kuh-SHA-suh; brazilian rum) – if u don’t have cachaca, u can substitute any other white rum or even vodka, but then you’d have to call the drink a caipivodka or caipiroska, don’t worry. by any other name, it still tastes just as sweet
  • crushed ice
  • a pestle, muddler, or a wooden spoon
  • old-fashioned or ‘lowball’ glass tumbler
  • sugarcane – optional garnish
Directions:
  1. slice the ends off of the lime.
  2. cut the lime into four wedges, then cut each of the wedges in half.
  3. place the cut lime in the glass, and add the sugar.
  4. give the sugar and lime a good pressing / mushing with your muddler, pestle or spoon – the point is to get all the juicy, pulpy goodness out of the limes and to dissolve most of the sugar so you don’t end up with a grainy beverage.
  5. next, add the crushed ice almost to the top of the glass.
  6. add the cachaca – again, almost filling the glass – and stir the mixture to combine everything.
  7. serve with a stalk of sugarcane as a garnish, or just slip in your straw and enjoy!
